Giving advice all the way to Yellowknife!|

I got an email from Chris Fairweather in Yellowknife. He had questions about his cat Harper. I believe this cat is a blue cream point Himalayan, and not a blue point. She came to him as a rescue cat. Below is his email.

Hello Patricia,

By way of email, I've been able to make your acquaintance and view your website. The pictures of the cats and kittens are wonderfully cute. I'm grateful for your insight on this breed of cat - especially their unique personalities. We rescued a cat last August, after a plea from the local Yellowknife vet for a caring home for a himalayan 8 year old cat named Harper. She came with no papers; however, she needs no registration to prove her wonderful disposition - in spite of a rather tragic event. After meeting her, Tracy and I decided she should be part of our family.

She lost about 1/3 of her beautiful fluffy tail!!! No one knows how or why she was wondering the streets of Yellowknife in May!!! The temperature at that time of year is still below freezing at night. Foxes and wild dogs are very common on our streets, so she is a lucky girl to have survived. The vet stated she had, in the past had had an operation, so it seems she did come from a caring home. The strange thing is we live in a community of only 20 000 people, but she went unclaimed at this office from May to August.

She was very matted and it took me about 3 months of coaxing and combing and cutting to de-tangle her coat.

Tracy and Harper have great affection towards each other, but she is mostly attended to by me for feeding, combing, clipping, cleaning, litter checks, and the infrequent bath. Tracy does legal circuits, which takes him away from Yellowknife for 15 days a month - so I'm her sole companion at times. She really misses him at times and will cry at the door.

OK, now that the events of our meeting are clear, perhaps you will understand why we appreciate your webpage. We know very little about the breed. The vet states she is Himalayan and has the colouring of a blue point. I'm unable to validate as there is no authority on Himmies in Yellowknife.

She has the blue eyes of a Himmy, and the fluffy coat including the body colouring of cream and dark points on her ears, face, tail and feet, and somewhat "pushed" in face.

We've always wondered more about her. I've included a couple of pictures of Harper. Enjoy, she is very sweet and playful as her pictures acutely depict.
