**If you already have another pet

If you are introducing your new baby in to your household that already has a cat or dog  PLEASE  pay close attention to the following advice. Put the new kitten in a separate area with food, litter and a bed. Pay a lot of attention to your established pet and do not let your pet see you play with the new baby for several days.

If you use a distinctive voice tone for the established pet do not use the same tone for new baby! This invites jealousy.

Do not hold the new baby and show it to the established pet. Your established pet will feel invaded and betrayed if you do. For the first week you will wonder whatever possessed you to get a new kitten, but as time goes on your established pet will enjoy the company of the new kitten.

When you leave your home - do not leave them together. The established pet should have the run of the house and the new baby should be in a separate area with a door closed between them. It will take several months before you will be able to leave them alone together. Enjoy this new addition to your family!
